Government contract scraper

I started this project in February 2025 after becoming interested in whether government spending could be used as an early signal for publicly traded companies. I wanted to build something that could automatically find newly awarded government contracts, identify the companies receiving them, and turn that information into something I could quickly research and act on.

The first part of the system focused on collecting government contract awards from publicly available government data. From there, it identified publicly traded companies connected to those contracts and pulled additional information about the companies and their stocks. I wanted the system to go beyond simply telling me that a company had won a contract, so it also looked at relevant online information and market data before producing a summary.

The final step was making the information easy to receive. Instead of having to open the program and check for new contracts myself, the system automatically generated a summary and sent it to me through iMessage. The message gave me the relevant contract information, the company involved, and the result of the analysis.

The analysis used a formula that considered factors such as the size and significance of the government contract, the company's stock information, and other available data. The goal wasn't to make a definitive investment decision, but to create a quick way to identify companies that might be worth researching further.

I continued developing the project through January 2026. By the end, what had started as an idea for tracking government contracts had become an automated pipeline that could find contracts, connect them to public companies, analyze the available information, and deliver the results directly to me.
