Equil
A wellness brand selling supplements, activewear, gym equipment and red light therapy devices. I set the brand direction and built the storefront.
I started Equil with a friend because we were both interested in fitness and wanted to combine our ideas to build something of our own. We wanted to see what it would look like to take an idea for a wellness brand and turn it into a real e-commerce website.
The project originally started as “ForgeFit,” with a much louder gym-wear focused identity. As we developed the idea, it didn't feel like the direction we wanted to take. We decided to scrap the original concept and build something that felt calmer and more focused on overall wellness. That became Equil, a brand centered around supplements, activewear, gym equipment, and red light therapy.
A lot of the design process came down to simplicity. We wanted the website to feel clean and intentional rather than looking like a typical fitness or supplement store. We used earthy greens throughout the main site, while giving the red light therapy section its own darker design with clay-red accents to make it feel distinct.
I built the site using Next.js, React, and TypeScript without relying on a CSS framework. The storefront includes category filtering, individual product pages with image galleries, subscribe-and-save options, a shopping cart, a journal, and an account area. I also upgraded the project from Next.js 14 to Next.js 15 after the previous version stopped receiving security fixes.
The storefront is currently functional, with checkout, subscriptions, and product recommendations planned as the next steps. More than anything, Equil has been a project about taking an idea we had together and turning it into something that actually works.
